Guiyang No.1 High School, a large boarding school, is a provincial first-rate model high school, whose predecessor is Guizhou Provincial Tong Sheng Public High School established by Mr. Li Duanfen-former education minister of Qing dynasty, together with the famous scholars such as Ren Kecheng, ect., in 1906. After its combination in the year 1950 with Guiyang Middle School, Zhongshang Middle School, the Middle School affiliated to Guizhou Teacher's College and Bequn Middle School, this famous school, which is called Guiyang No.1 High School today came into being. No.1 High School, which has the following buildings of Administration and Teaching, Science and Art, Multi-function Gym, Library, etc, stands up in Jin Yang District with the area 465.76 acre. 

Currently, No.1 High School has totally 105 classes, nearly 5400 students, 370 teachers, among whom 13 have got the certificate of special-class, 45 provincial-key-level, 73 Master degree and 9 foreign. In addition, there are 3 teachers who can teach French, Russian, and Japanese respectively.

No. 1 High School is well known for its first-class facilities, strict management, excellent teachers, educational quality, and outstanding talents at home and abroad From here have stepped out a great number of excellent talented persons such as Mr. Zhou Yiqun, Le Shengxun , Xiong Yi, Xiao Xuchang, Sheng Dezhong academicians of both Engineering and Social Academy; Mr. Cheng Zhuwu, member of the Chinese Society-Science Research Committee; Mr. Xia Pingchou, expert of permanent magnetism and Mr. Xie Liuyi, star of the Chinese literacy circles and so on , all of whom used to be the students of No. 1 High School.  

The Century-old No. 1 School is famous all over the whole province for its high-quality teaching. Recent years, averagely more than 80% of the students here have been accepted by key universities. In the annual entrance examination of the whole province, among the students with mark more than 600, 25% are from No.1 High School, and the number of students accepted by both Qin Hua and Beijing University stand 50% of the total to be enrolled by the two universities in Guizhou as well. More than 50% students of the total to be on behalf of Guizhou Province in the maths, physics, chemistry, English, Biology Olympic and Adolescents Science & technology innovation competition are No.1 High School students. At present, the school has established friendly and cooperative relations with a number of international schools in Canada, the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Sweden and other countries. With the increasingly extensive international exchanges, Guiyang No.1 High School is becoming an open school with dozens of students going to study in famous universities abroad each year.
